My name is Kathy Thrun, and I’ve proudly called Quincy home for 50 years. I am a passionate community activist who has stood up to wasteful spending, developer giveaways, and the loss of tax-paying businesses. Like many of you, I worry about rising property taxes and whether families can afford to stay in Quincy.
I’ve fought to protect green space and preserve landmarks like the Ruth Gordon Amphitheater. I launched the effort to prevent the amphitheater from being filled. I worked to pass the Community Preservation Act and coauthored Open Space Reports that saved lands from development. I spoke up against the mayor’s 79% raise, unnecessary statues, tax breaks for developers and skyrocketing debt.

My son is a North Quincy High School and Cornell graduate and NYPD Lieutenant. My husband, father, and grandfather all served our country during times of war. I hold degrees from BU, Harvard, and Tufts in chemistry, business, and engineering.
My career spans cancer research, environmental science, flavor research, and disaster recovery across the globe, dealing with a variety of governments and politics. I know how to navigate complex systems—and I’m ready to bring that experience home to serve you. I’ve led large federal and international projects, managing complex budgets and multiple stakeholders. That experience has taught me how to solve tough problems build consensus, and deliver results.
Let’s bring accountability back to Quincy. I’d be honored to earn your vote.
